The University of Illinois Chicago Police Department (UICPD), in full partnership with the university and its surrounding communities, is committed to the safety and security of the campus and its neighborhoods in order to create the most enriching academic environment and quality of life for all UIC’s students, faculty, staff and visitors.
To support its mission, UICPD established a therapy dog program in late 2023 to promote mental health within the UIC community and serve as a bridge between law enforcement and those it serves. Its therapy dog, Pawfficer Ham, has received more than 1,000 hours of specialized training to provide emotional support and companionship to UIC students, staff, and faculty in need.
Ham’s gentle demeanor, intuitive nature and ability to offer unconditional love can bring joy and solace to people of all ages and backgrounds, and he has quickly become a beloved part of the UIC community. Donations to the Therapy Dog Fund will be used to support Pawfficer Ham’s care and upkeep.
